홈런포를 앞세워 역전극을 만들어 낸 캔자스시티 로얄스는 브래디 싱어(8승 8패 4.91)가 시즌 9승에 도전한다. 15일 시애틀과 홈 경기에서 7.1이닝 2실점의 호투를 보여준 싱어는 8월 들어서 2승 2.05의 압도적 투구를 이어가는 중이다. 하지만 강력한 홈 경기에 비해 원정 투구가 좋지 않다는 문제가 있다는게 이번 경기 최대의 변수가 되는 포인트다. 전날 경기에서 타이욘 상대로 바비 위트 주니어의 역전 2점 홈런 포함 4점을 득점한 캔자스시티의 타선은 몇 안되는 찬스를 잡아낸게 그대로 승리로 연결되었다. 다만 전날 경기의 승리는 상대의 자멸에 가까웠음을 잊어선 안될듯. 3이닝을 무실점으로 버틴 불펜은 계속 이런 모습이 나와줘야 할 것이다.
전날 경기는 컵스의 야수진이 스스로 경기를 날려버렸다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 그래도 이번 경기에서 반등의 여지는 존해자는 편. 아무래도 싱어는 홈과 원정의 차이가 좀 큰 투수이기도 하고 스틸의 홈 낮 경기 투구는 상당히 신뢰할수 있는 편이다. 그리고 캔자스시티의 불펜은 언제 무너져도 이상하지 않다. 선발에서 앞선 시카고 컵스가 승리에 가까이 있다.
